Masumi wanted a showreel. I wanted to make one. Did some tests, with lights, in my room. We thought about studios and spaces. Tried to think of somewhere to shoot. In the end we opted for somewhere on the street. A few weeks ago I went for a walk and took some photos in an abandoned shopping arcade close to the OXO tower. The one below in particular was just asking for a subject to be placed under the light.
We set a date to shoot and went to see the location again, had breakfast, dodged the rain and shot some quick tests. Then we ate Thai food at Maries Cafe on Lower Marsh and had a lie down.
A few hours later we returned. One business in the arcade was stil open so we went for dinner. Masumi consumed a massive burger and a pint of beer, I'm amazed she could still move. At about 10pm we set up and shot on a Canon 5D Mk2. We were finished in little over an hour, then went home to bed. I had meetings and a haircut the next day. On returning home I cut together the footage in a few hours.
I'm really very pleased with the outcome, dancing is so much fun to capture and cut. I'd like to do more like this.
