Liars, liars, liars. I've been a geek for the Liars for too long. I saw them recently on a Thursday night in Shepherds Bush, the first in my week of gigs and the biggest. I've seen Liars a bunch of times and the first time I saw them they did the Nirvana cover I embedded up there. Watching it now it still get goosebumps and I've kind of been going every time since in the hope that they'll replay it.
It never happens and I'm fine with it because I love the Liars. I've discovered that I'm pretty poor at writing about music like this and I spose it makes it especially hard when I'm a fan, hmmmm.
Liars are three people. Every time I've seen them play it's been different, this time they had two others, before they've had one, I think they work best just as a three piece as they did after the encore last week. One singer/guitarist and two drummers. I can't remember what they played first but they finished with Broken Witch. This has become a bit of a live favourite. Listening to the recording, you can't quite see it transferring but live and amplified it's brutal and percussive, it sucks you in. I end up doing a jittery freak dance to those drums and I come to the end of the song shouting along "Blood, blood blood" over and over and over. I wanna be a horse.
