Whoa, Kings College Chapel is big and old. We were there on Monday to shoot with the Choir and the AAM. They were recording Mozart's Requiem and we caught the last day of sessions.

As for the shoot itself it was surprisingly smooth. As it was a recording session, the final sound will be incredible I'm sure. Because of this though there are microphone stands everywhere which doesn't make for such a pretty picture. I'd like to request we reshoot with everyone involved miming. I think this would make for an excellent film but nobody else shares my enthusiasm for the idea. We could get a Jib, Dolly, Head mounted GoPro's, Some kind of remote controlled ceiling camera.
The above sentence is a joke. It would be good though don't you think? Something I love is the footage of Karajan conducting various Beethoven Symphonies from German TV in the 60's. From what I can gather they're all studio shot, they look incredible, they sound great and there is not a camera-op or mic-stand in sight. I'd love to know how these were produced, how they were shot and recorded. Have a look at the clip and follow it up on youtube if you have the time It's all incredible.
Is this something that can happen nowadays? There has been a fair bit of talk about live-streaming concerts and the proms happen every year and broadcast to an excellent standard but nobody is doing anything like this, or taking any chances quite like this. I would love to work on something that could present performance in an exciting, beautiful and watchable way. Not just recording at a gig or rehearsal and not some kind of Jools Holland/TotP studio shoot but something bespoke and amazing. Give us a call…
