A tenner for a tenor
This week saw the launch of the Britten Sinfonia's "A tenner for a tenor" scheme and our accompanying advert. Tenner for a tenor is a crowd funding initiative to create a new piece of music by Jonathan Dove for the band and Mark Padmore.
We first spoke to the Britten Sinfonia a couple of months ago about the project. We were looking to make some short promotional films following the process of creating this new piece. The thing that struck me though was how unusual the idea was and also that it was a bit cheeky.
I decided to follow that lead and when sending a quote back I added a link to a very rough version of the film you see, more of an animatic. I didn't think we'd get the go-ahead to make this and I still feel a bit bad about what we did to Mark Padmore's head.
For the shoot, after I'd found all of the items necessary including wasting £10 on return tickets to Maidenhead (although I'm sure a day trip to Maidenhead is a lovely thing), I needed to set up the studio.
I cleared out my front room and stuck the end of an enormous roll of white paper to the wall and rolled it down and over my coffee table. I'd used objects that weren't too big and were static and I tried my best to get all the shots uniform. Wish there's been room for a proper studio but I think I did pretty well with my front room and three redheads.
